Description

Murray Schisgal

one part performance about a man and a woman in a small space

A woman and a man, meeting daily at the same place of work. In the traditional work, from eight in the morning to five in the evening, in a small work room, where constant clutter of monotonous typewriter sounds while performing the one and same action – typing of potential buyers' names, surnames and addresses on promotional postcards – can be heard. This is how Sylvia Peyton and Paul Canningham spend their lives in one firm. A woman and a man desperately trying to discuss in their daily dialogues about the things that worry, upset and even hurt them. They indiscriminately believe that they will never have to do what they do not want, and that this daily "machine" printing on postcards is only a temporary work for them.

"The Typists" is a performance about the desire to live differently, about the desire to at least briefly escape from the shell of everyday life routine and at the same time about the great fear of changing something in a settled life. This is a play about ambitions that are greater than a man himself.
